My epic MTB ride.
Last Sunday in Knysna I had arranged to go on a ride somewhat out of my comfort zone. What I didn’t realise was how much I would enjoy it and how deep I would have to dig. I have never really been out in the mountains in Knysna – only the hills ! I ventured out from Gouna, through Kom-se-Pad on a beautiful road through magnificent forest. We then turned off into the plantations and fynbos towards Rondebossie. We forged the Knysna river. The views were magnificent , the descents were thrilling ( some a bit terrifying ! ) and the climbs gruelling , but I accomplished (with a little help from my friends) more than I thought I was capable, and as it turns out, 20km more than I was planning ! There was some walking and pausing to soak myself in a stream or stop under a tree. We passed through Millwood , passing the Daleen Mathee Big tree at Krisjan-se-Nek. So beautiful and so much history. There was great camaraderie and laughs and a little friendly persuasion (up the climbs !). I experienced every emotion. But mostly, I finished with a smile, with stories to tell. Next time join me – you’ll love it !
